Yuddha Kanda (Book of War)

The epic battle for Dharma, the defeat of Ravana, and the return of Sita.

Summary

Yuddha Kanda, the sixth and most action-packed book, details the great war between Rama's army and the forces of Ravana. After Ravana's righteous brother, Vibhishana, is exiled for advising peace, he seeks refuge with Rama. The Vanara army then constructs the legendary Rama Setu, a bridge across the ocean to Lanka.

A fierce battle ensues, featuring mighty warriors and celestial weapons. Key events include the fall of Ravana's giant brother Kumbhakarna, and the heroic efforts of Lakshmana, who slays Ravana's powerful son, Indrajit. In the climactic duel, Rama finally defeats and kills Ravana with the divine Brahmastra. After the war, Sita undergoes an 'Agni Pariksha' (trial by fire) to prove her purity. The victorious party returns to Ayodhya, where Rama is crowned king, heralding the beginning of 'Ram Rajya', an era of perfect governance.
