Chanting the Thousand Names of Lord Vishnu for peace and prosperity
Materials Required
- Idol or Picture of Lord Vishnu
- Vishnu Sahasranamam Book
- Tulsi Leaves & Flowers
- Incense Sticks & Ghee Lamp
- Sandalwood Paste (Chandan)
- Water in a copper vessel
- Prasad (Fruits or Sweets)
- Asana (Mat) to sit
Step-by-Step Procedure
Purification (Achamana)
Sit on a clean mat facing East or North. Sip water three times chanting "Achyutaya Namaha, Anantaya Namaha, Govindaya Namaha".
Lighting the Lamp
Light the ghee lamp and incense sticks. Pray to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles.
Dhyanam (Meditation)
Meditate on the form of Lord Vishnu. Recite the Dhyana Shlokas found at the beginning of the Sahasranamam.
Offerings (Manasika Pooja)
Offer flowers and Tulsi leaves to the Lord mentally or physically while chanting.
Chanting (Parayanam)
Chant the 1000 names of Lord Vishnu clearly and with devotion. If you cannot chant, listening to it is also beneficial.
Conclusion
Recite the concluding verses (Phala Shruti). Offer Prasad and perform Aarti.
Dhyana Shloka
"Shuklam Baradharam Vishnum Shashivarnam Chaturbhujam
Prasanna Vadanam Dhyayet Sarva Vighnopashantaye"
Meaning: For the removal of all obstacles, one should meditate on Vishnu, who is dressed in white, has the color of the moon, has four arms, and has a pleasant face.
