Step-by-Step Procedure

Brahma Muhurta Snan

Wake up during Brahma Muhurta (before sunrise) and take a bath. This is considered highly meritorious during this month.

Sankalpa & Invocation

Take a vow to perform the pooja or fast. Invoke Lord Purushottam (Krishna/Vishnu) into the idol.

Worship (Pooja)

Offer water, sandalwood paste, yellow flowers, and Tulsi leaves. Tulsi is very dear to Lord Vishnu.

Deep Daan

Light a ghee lamp and offer it to the Lord. Offering lamps (Deep Daan) is a significant ritual in Purushottam Maas.

Offerings (Naivedyam)

Offer Malpua (sweet fried pancakes) to the Lord. It is the specific offering for this month.

Read Chapter 15 of the Bhagavad Gita (Purushottam Yoga) or listen to the Purushottam Maas Mahatmya.

Purushottam Mantra

"Govardhana Dharam Vande Gopalam Goparupinam
Gokulotsava Meeshana Govindam Gopika Priyam"

Meaning: I bow to the lifter of Govardhana Hill, the protector of cows, the Lord of Gokula's festivals, Govinda, the beloved of the Gopis.
