The supreme ritual of bathing Lord Shiva with sacred offerings
Materials Required
- Shiva Linga
- Gangajal (Holy Water)
- Cow's Milk, Curd, Ghee
- Honey, Sugar (Cane Juice)
- Bel Patra & Dhatura
- Flowers (White/Blue)
- Sandalwood Paste & Bhasma
- Incense, Lamp, Camphor
- Fruits & Naivedya
Step-by-Step Procedure
Preparation & Sankalpa
Place the Shiva Linga in a tray (to catch liquids). Invoke Lord Ganesha first. Take water in hand and make a solemn vow (Sankalpa) for the puja.
The Abhishekam
This is the main part. Pour offerings in this order while chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" or Sri Rudram: Water, Milk, Curd, Ghee, Honey, Sugar/Cane Juice, and finally Water again.
Cleaning & Decoration
Gently dry the Linga. Apply Tripundra (three lines) with Bhasma and Chandan. Decorate with Bel Patra, Dhatura, and flowers.
Offerings (Naivedya)
Offer fruits, sweets, and betel leaves to the Lord.
Aarti & Mantra
Perform the Shiva Aarti with a camphor lamp. Chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra for health and protection.

Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat"
Meaning: We worship the Three-Eyed One, who is fragrant and nourishes all beings. May He liberate us from death for the sake of immortality.
