Materials Required
- Shiva Linga or Picture
- Rudraksha Mala (108 beads)
- Gangajal in Copper Pot
- White Flowers & Bel Patra
- Ghee Lamp (Diya)
- Incense Sticks
- Vibhuti (Sacred Ash)
- Clean Mat (Asana)
Step-by-Step Procedure
Preparation & Sankalpa
Sit comfortably facing East or North on a clean mat. Light the lamp and incense. Take water in your right hand and make a resolve (Sankalpa) for health or protection.
Invocation (Dhyana)
Meditate on Lord Shiva as the three-eyed one (Tryambaka), radiant and peaceful. Offer a flower or Bel Patra to the deity.
Japa (Chanting)
Using the Rudraksha mala, chant the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra 108 times with devotion and focus on the meaning.
Abhishekam (Optional)
If you have a Shiva Linga, you may perform a simple Abhishekam with water or milk while chanting.
Conclusion & Aarti
After completing the rounds, sit in silence for a few minutes. Perform Aarti and apply Vibhuti on your forehead.
Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
"Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushti-Vardhanam
Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat"
Meaning: We worship the Three-Eyed One, who is fragrant and nourishes all beings. May He liberate us from death for the sake of immortality, just as the cucumber is severed from its bondage.
