Materials Required
- Idol or Picture of Lord Ganesha
- Turmeric & Sindoor
- Durva Grass (21 blades)
- Red Flowers (Hibiscus)
- Sesame Seeds (Til) & Jaggery
- Modak or Ladoo
- Incense Sticks & Lamp
- Betel Leaves & Nuts
- Coconut & Fruits
- Kalash with Water
Step-by-Step Procedure
Purification & Sankalpa
Wake up early, take a bath using sesame seeds (optional), and wear clean clothes. Take a vow to perform the puja with devotion.
Installation (Sthapana)
Place the idol on a clean altar covered with a red cloth. Light the lamp and incense sticks.
Abhishekam & Decoration
Bathe the idol with Panchamrit and water. Apply turmeric and sindoor paste. Adorn with flowers.
Offerings (Durva & Bhog)
Offer 21 blades of Durva grass. Offer sweets made of sesame and jaggery, along with Modaks and fruits.
Chanting & Katha
Chant "Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha" 108 times. Read the story of Ganesh Jayanti.
Aarti
Perform the Ganesha Aarti and distribute Prasad to family members.
Ganesh Mantra
"Gajananam Bhuta Ganadhi Sevitam
Kapittha Jambu Phala Sara Bhakshitam
Uma Sutam Shoka Vinasha Karanam
Namami Vighneshwara Pada Pankajam"
Meaning: I bow to the lotus feet of Ganesha, the son of Uma, the cause of destruction of sorrow, who is served by the host of Bhuta-Ganas, and who consumes the essence of Kapittha and Jambu fruits.
