Ganesh Chaturthi Pooja
Celebrating the arrival of Lord Ganesha
Materials Required
- Clay Idol of Lord Ganesha
- Red Flowers (Hibiscus)
- Durva Grass (21 blades)
- Modak or Ladoo
- Coconut & Fruits
- Incense Sticks & Oil Lamp
- Turmeric, Kumkum, Sandalwood Paste
- Betel Leaves & Nuts
- Kalash with Water
- Red Cloth for Asana
Step-by-Step Procedure
Prana Pratishtha
Place the idol on the altar. Chant mantras to invoke life into the idol (Prana Pratishtha). Offer flowers and rice.
Shodashopachara Puja
Perform the 16-step worship. Offer water for washing feet, bathing (Abhishekam), new clothes (Vastra), and sacred thread.
Offerings (Durva & Flowers)
Offer 21 blades of Durva grass and red flowers. Apply Tilak of Sandalwood paste and Kumkum.
Naivedyam (Bhog)
Offer Modaks (Ganesha's favorite sweet), coconut, and fruits. Offer water to drink.
Aarti & Mantra Pushpanjali
Perform the Ganesha Aarti ("Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh"). Offer flowers at the end seeking blessings.
Visarjan (Immersion)
On the final day (Anant Chaturdashi), perform a brief puja and immerse the idol in water, requesting Him to return early next year.

"Vakratunda Mahakaya Surya Koti Samaprabha
Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada"
Meaning: O Lord with the curved trunk and huge body, whose brilliance is equal to a crore suns, please make all my works obstacle-free, always.
