Worship the Goddess of Power and Strength
Materials Required
- Idol or Picture of Goddess Durga
- Red Cloth (Chunri)
- Flowers (Red Hibiscus preferred)
- Fruits & Sweets
- Incense Sticks & Diya (Lamp)
- Kumkum, Turmeric, Sandalwood Paste
- Rice (Akshat)
- Kalash with Water, Mango Leaves, Coconut
- Betel Leaves & Nuts
- Ghee & Camphor for Aarti
Step-by-Step Procedure
Purification & Sankalpa
Sprinkle water to purify the area. Take a vow (Sankalpa) to perform the pooja with devotion.
Kalash Sthapana
Place the Kalash on a bed of rice. Place mango leaves and a coconut wrapped in red cloth on top.
Invocation (Avahana)
Invoke Goddess Durga into the idol or Kalash. Offer flowers and request her presence.
Offerings (Upachara)
Offer water, sandalwood paste, kumkum, flowers, incense, lamp, and food (Naivedyam) to the Goddess.
Aarti & Pushpanjali
Perform the Aarti with camphor or ghee lamp. Offer flowers (Pushpanjali) at the end seeking blessings.
Durga Mantra
"Sarva Mangala Mangalye Shive Sarvartha Sadhike
Sharanye Tryambake Gauri Narayani Namostute"
Meaning: Salutations to You O Narayani, who is the auspiciousness of all that is auspicious, the Consort of Shiva, who is the means of accomplishing all desires, and who is the refuge of all, the Three-eyed One, and the Fair One.
